Luis Lopez

Tattoo Artist

How It All Went Down:
It started at the age of 18 one night when a good friend of mine had me do a piece of art on his leg. That was a pivotal moment for me. The thought of having the privilege of doing a tattoo on the human canvas blew my mind. From then on I was hooked.
I started my journey the next day by trying to figure out the route I would need to take to become a true tattoo artist. I worked as an underground artist for a year before I got my big break at Gina’s tattoo studio in Yuba City, California. I studied under the owner for 2 years before making the move to Humboldt county and it took almost a year before I had the opportunity to interview with Jason at Primal Decor in 1996. I’m happy to say I’m still rocking out at Primal and loving every minute of it.

My Tattoo Style:
It’s difficult to narrow down just one style because I appreciate them all! Black and grey would be one of the styles I enjoy busting out the most, but I’d say custom designs are my specialty. There’s something significant about the process of incorporating my client’s tattoo with their own body lines to truly make each tattoo experience unique to them.
At the end of the day, the idea of making somebody fall in love with their new tattoo is my idea of artistry at its finest.

Taking Care of Our Community:
For the past 8 years I have had the honor of coaching football and baseball in Humboldt County. I currently coach football at Eureka High School and enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
